Five Electric Cars for Families

Five Electric Cars for Families

Are you choosing a new company car and need space for the family? Electric cars are not just for city driving and commuters. With the latest models, there is plenty of space and comfort for the whole family. Here are five electric cars that combine spaciousness, range, and large trunk volume, so you and your family can drive electric without compromising on space.

Luxurious family space: BMW i5 Touring

The BMW i5 Touring is among the first electric station wagons on the market. It combines luxury, performance, and space, making it the perfect family car.

The Touring’s trunk can hold 570 liters but feels larger as the trunk capacity is measured below the headrests. When the rear seats are folded down, the trunk can accommodate up to 1,700 liters of luggage. However, the rear seatback cannot be completely folded down, resulting in a trunk that is not entirely flat when expanded.

The Touring measures 5,060 mm in length and has a maximum power output of 340 hp (250 kW). With a range of up to 560 km (WLTP), it is ideal for both family outings and business use. Charging times are also reasonable, with the possibility of fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes at 205 kW. This makes the BMW i5 Touring a practical and versatile choice for those seeking a combination of luxury and space.

Model Type: Station wagon
Range (WLTP): Up to 560 km
Trunk Space: 570 – 1,700 liters

Budget-friendly elegance: VW ID.7 Tourer

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is one of the first electric station wagons on the market. The model combines space, performance, and style, building on the success of its predecessor, the ID.7, which was named Company Car of the Year 2024.

The trunk can hold 605 liters when loaded to the top of the rear seat backrest. When the rear seatback is folded down, the luggage volume increases to 1,714 liters.

The ID.7 Pro is equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack that can fast-charge with up to 175 kW, allowing for a recharge from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes.

Long range: Audi Q6 e-tron

The Audi Q6 e-tron marks the debut of Audi’s new platform and architecture called PPE – a construction developed in close collaboration with Porsche. It represents a significant leap forward for electric cars in terms of range, charging, and performance.

The first variants of the Audi Q6 e-tron will be introduced this summer, offering an impressive range of up to 617 km (WLTP).

At the heart of the Q6 e-tron is the flat 800-volt lithium-ion battery integrated into the chassis. The battery is impressive in both charging and performance. Charging from 10% to 80% takes only 21-22 minutes thanks to a capacity of up to 285 kW.

The wheelbase is 2.9 meters, providing plenty of space for passengers and luggage. The trunk can hold between 526 and 1,529 liters, depending on whether the rear seat is folded down or not. With the car's ‘frunk’, there is an additional 64 liters of space for storing charging cables and extra luggage.

The Audi Q6 e-tron combines innovative technology with impressive performance and practical functionality, making it an excellent choice for those seeking an advanced electric SUV with ample space and long range.

Model Type: SUV

Spacious and efficient: Skoda Enyaq

In addition to a price reduction, the Skoda Enyaq has also received some technical updates in 2024. The new version is significantly improved, and although the battery has not increased in size, the motor is now more powerful and efficient. With a motor producing 286 hp and significantly higher torque, the Enyaq now has 75% more power than before. The new motor is not only more powerful but also more efficient, resulting in a longer range. The official WLTP range has increased from 521 to 557 km.

The Skoda Enyaq is a large SUV model that offers ample legroom, thigh support, and good headroom, making it suitable as a family car. The trunk is another of its strengths, as with 585 liters, you get as much space as in the most spacious station wagons. However, the Enyaq does not have a ‘frunk’, but the spaciousness it offers makes it an ideal family car.

Model Type: SUV
Range (WLTP): Up to 558 km
Trunk Space: 585 – 1,004 liters

Flexibility for large families: Mercedes-Benz EQB

The updated Mercedes-Benz EQB is a tall and spacious SUV that can now be equipped with either a tow hitch or a third row of seats. With an electric range of up to 528 km (WLTP) and a fast charging time of 32 minutes from 10% to 80%, the EQB is both practical and efficient.

One of the most notable features of the EQB is the ability to accommodate up to seven people, making it particularly interesting for larger families. However, the seven seats are part of an equipment package costing 12,300 DKK, and it is worth noting that the extra row of seats changes some of the car's other features. With the extra seats installed, the trunk capacity is reduced, and the car can no longer be equipped with a tow hitch.

With five seats, the EQB has a trunk capacity of 495 liters, but this can be expanded to up to 1,710 liters with the rear seats folded down. This configuration also allows for the installation of a tow hitch, giving the car a towing capacity of up to 1,700 kg. This makes the EQB a highly flexible solution for those who need to transport both passengers and a trailer.

Model Type: SUV
Range (WLTP): Up to 528 km
Trunk Space: 495 - 1,710 liters
